The starting point
An Italian consumer-goods company needed to source a line of packaging components. It had already collected a few online offers, but with two recurring doubts: were the suppliers real manufacturers or intermediaries? And did the declared quality match what would actually arrive in Europe?
Analysing the need
The first step was not to look for a supplier, but to fully understand the requirement: technical specifications, volumes, destination-market regulations and room for flexibility. This phase made it possible to identify the right industrial supply chain, the one specialised in exactly that product category.
Selection within the chain
Rather than starting from a generic list, the search focused inside the chain, drawing on direct access to the local network. Three actual manufacturers were identified, all verified on licence, capacity and references.
The difference was not finding a supplier, but being able to choose among suppliers that were already qualified.
Verification and sampling
For each candidate, samples were requested and a technical assessment conducted. A factory visit completed the picture on production lines and internal quality control. Two of the three suppliers passed the verification.
Negotiation and outcome
The negotiation, conducted from inside the chain, led to better conditions than those initially offered online, with timelines defined in writing and quality control agreed before shipment. The goods arrived compliant with the specifications, with no surprises at customs and no subsequent complaints.
